Château de Chamirey

News - 2010 : Encore une année de vignerons!

31/12/2099

There is no great red wine which is produced at a more northern latitude than in Burgundy. As a consequence, climatic conditions are very uneven from one to another vintage and the Pinot Noir has a great ability to adapt to major difficulties. It is obvious that the vintage 2010 is indeed very different from the previous one. It all started with winter frosts which destroyed some lower parts of the vineyards and has decreased the production of numerous vines which could not be seen a first sight. Then, the month of February was rather mild. March was chilly, June and July very nice. August was wet but September once more made it. Finally, we have harvested only 70 % at Château de Chamirey and 60 % at Domaine des Perdrix of an average crop. Once more, we have been brave enough to wait until the full maturity of our grapes and after a very severe sorting out, we may promise that the reputation of our domaines will be maintained. Our red wines are very fruity, crisp with a good body. As usual in this type of vintage, the Pinot Noir gives great elegance. The Chardonnay as usual has shown a great ability to cope with the climatic conditions. The wines show a nice balance between fruit and acidity. We will come back to you after a while to let you know more. Aurore, Amaury & Bertrand DEVILLARD
